PENSION LAW UPDATE FOR TRUSTEES OF RETIREMENT FUNDS – 7 NOVEMBER 2006

We’re pleased to announce the first in a regular series of morning seminars especially structured for retirement-fund trustees and principal officers on the latest developments in the dynamically changing area of pension-fund law. To keep abreast of these developments is imperative for the industry as a whole, and for trustees particularly.

Presenters will be two of South Africa’s leading pension lawyers:

Rosemary Hunter
of Hunter Employee Benefits Law

Graham Damant
of the Bowman Gilfillan law firm

They will analyse the relevance to trustees of recent High Court judgments, Pension Fund Adjudicator determinations and FSB Appeal Board decisions as well as contemporary issues facing the pensions industry.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Personal liability
  • Conflicts of interest
  • Bulking
  • Retrospective rule amendments
  • Surplus apportionment schemes
  • Annuity funds
  • Duties to stakeholders

Topics will be presented in a manner easily intelligible to trustees and that will meet their training needs.

Each participant will exclusively receive, without additional charge, a package of material for ongoing reference.
